'Proud of Pollokshields' was the first organised community-wide cleanup campaign in Pollokshields, instigated by four local residents.Proud of Pollokshields

It raised the profile of community action to improve neighbourhood environment and now thrives through the individual groups active in the area.

In association with, and substantial support from the City Council agencies responsible for local amenity and a healthv environment:-

Clean Glasgow Campaign
Launched in 2007, Clean Glasgow is a partnership of communities and environmental services sharing responsibility for neighbourhoods. It has a long-term strategy aimed at improving and developing the Council's services, and tackling anti-social behaviour. Practical support is also available for local cleanups and area improvements. Special teams have been set up to provide rapid response to community concerns about issues regarding litter, graffiti, dumping and damage to the environment. Tel: 08000277027

Glasgow Community Safety Services
This organisation aims to prevent crime, tackle anti-social behaviour and promote community safety throughout the city.

Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde Police, Glasgow' Community Safety Partnership and the city's public space CCTV company are engaged on a variety of initiatives, including the Clean Glasgow Campaign.

Land & Environmental Services

The LAND element of the LES remit is to manage, maintain and develop the city's land, road transport and environmental resources in a sustainable manner. This includes parks and open spaces, parks development and the Countryside Ranger Service. The maintenance and design of roads, footpaths, cycleways, lighting and traffic management are also within their remit, and some specialist services.

The ENVIRONMENTAL element of LES strives to maintain and improve general standards of public health and safety, enforcing legislation and providing environmental services - to keep the streets clean, to collect and dispose of refuse by environmentallyfriendly means and to ensure compliance with hygiene laws, and to monitor air quality and contaminated land.
