Pollokshields Heritage

Leslie Street Greenspaces

Leslie Street Greenspaces was formed in 2007 by residents who were concerned about the future of a number of greenspaces situated along the length of Leslie Street in Pollokshields. At this time there were plans to build on the spaces, but such was the opposition by local residents the plans were withdrawn and the spaces have been recognised as greenspace in the city plan.

In April 2011, the group constituted and applied for funding to Glasgow City Council’s Stalled Spaces Initiative, to develop one of the sites known as Stepping Stone Park (on the corner of Leslie Street and Keir Street) into a wildlife friendly amenity greenspace.

The main aims and objectives of Leslie Street Greenspaces are:

  • To protect all Leslie Street Greenspaces
  • To improve and enhance the Leslie Street Greenspaces
  • To encourage the recreational use of Leslie Street Greenspaces
  • To contribute to better health outcomes for the community which surrounds Leslie Street in future years
  • Work with other groups to enhance Pollokshields and ensure the amenity is maintained

Leslie Street Greenspaces Group has consulted widely with residents to ensure their views have been included in all plans developed so far. The group has a management committee and members.
